Last of his kind

This is Lonesome George

He is the last known individual of his species 

(helonoidis nigra abingdoni or better known as the Pinta Island tortoise)

He is the last known Pinta Island Tortoise.

He has been labelled the rarest creature in the world.

George is estimated to be around 100 years old and is in good health.

However,

unless a female tortoise of the same Pinta Island Tortoise is found, 

Lonesome George will die alone,

marking an end to his entire species.

Geminids Meteor Shower

Its that time of the year again,Christmas,New Year and holidays are topped with another reason to cheer.


The Geminids Meteor Shower which is the most beautiful multi-coloured meteor shower to have been noticed by the naked eye, will produce 60 multi-coloured shooting stars per hour at its peak,which will take place tommorow midnight, 13th of December 2011, around the constelattion of Gemini (shown below)

If you have problem finding it, look for Orion's belt, which is the three stars which appear to be on a straight line, and from there look on the left where the Gemini Constellation would be.

There would be plenty of this meteor passing by, all you got to do is look at the right part of the night sky and would be really helpful if you are away from a polluted night sky.

Updates- December 09th

The end of the year is near and a re-cap of the year shows hardships,trials and tribulations throughout the year.

The good that came out of it was that as a family, we are much closer than before.And I graduated these year.Many years of fun and wonderful experience,friends will stay in memories as for time lasts.Its time to move on the more serious part of life, of working life. Job hunt has been going on for a few months now, many say Im choosy which I agree. Choosiness creates quality. Diving into the first thing or first girl I meet has never been my style, time and a lot of thinking. I will get the right job at the right time. Right girl? hahahahaha.....I have my precious blog and football,ahh....where can there be a bigger love than the love of football?

And yeah, its Kishen's birthday today. May God enhance his super ability in playing football and give him the right sunshine to grow into a awesome young gentleman.Is a wonderful person, a veryy good friend.Happy birthday Kishen.

Its also the fun part of the year, where holidays are aplenty with Christmas and New Year kicking in.

It will be real fun to see who celebrates the New Year and who doesnt. 2012 is ought to be the most controversial New Year celebrations ever.After January 1st, there will be two kind of people.The ones that live their live to the max before Doomsday arrive and the ones that maximize their life by ignoring it and working hard.I will be the latter.

Why me?

This is a story of a tennis player named Arthur Ashe.


In 1975, Ashe won Wimbledon, unexpectedly defeating Jimmy Connors. 


In 1988, Ashe discovered he had contracted HIV during the blood transfusions he had received during one of his two heart surgeries. 


He kept it a secret till in 1992, the news went public.


Many shared his pain,with some even writing him in despair,asking as to why did God choose him of all the people while he had not done anything wrong in his life? 


To this Ashe’s reply was, 


“All over the world some million teenagers aspire to become tennis players. Out of these million may be a hundred thousand reach to some sort of proficiency. Of them only a few thousand play in some circuit and only a hundred or so play the grand slam. Finally only two reach the final of Wimbledon. When I was standing with the trophy of Wimbledon in my hand I never questioned God “Why Me?” 


And now what right do I have to ask God “Why Me?”


 Ashe died in 1993.

Okay, enough of the bullshit opinion everybody has on the problems with Manchester United and why there are not performing well. Seriously 9 out of 10 football fans don't understand the dynamics of the game and pre-assume the cause of United's show of poor form lately.Another issue here is the influence of the media on these football fans, some take the media too seriously. The media isn't the truth, they show you what sells and what sells isn't the truth.


So what's the truth?
The truth is the dynamics of the game, the physical and psychological conditions of the football game dictate any team's performance.

(5) Ferdinand# Age-Can't stay fit and unable to defend aerial balls  any more.Goals conceded against Basel and Benfica at Old Trafford were clear show.


(6) Evans #Poor technical and lack of confidence to play as Centre  Back. Doesn't have enough pace or proper tackling ability.Always mistimes.I doubt this needs any more convincing.


(7) Owen #Age and lack of speed.


(27) Macheda # Just not good enough.Horrible first touch, as a striker doesn't get into the box or tiny spaces in between of defenders. Doesn't even  make space for other players to run.


(29) Kuszczak #Not in the right mental state to play. Lost of confidence after following down the pecking order behind De Gea, Lindergaard  and even Ben Amos. Wants to leave the club, he should.


(32) Diouf #Not good enough.Bad touches of the ball. Doesn't make use of  physical ability to push opposing defenders.

Second thing we can relate to United's poor run of form is the mentality of the players. Mentality in United is the winning mentality, never give up till the last whistle.It is the mentality that accompanies the technical ability that has given United wonderful results in past years.

There are 2 main situations in football when mentality plays a big part:

-When the team goes a goal,two or even three goals down. 

-When team plays under high pressure, albeit under media pressure,fans booing or simply playing away from home.

In the past, the United mentality has seen us overcame many situations like these below:

4-2 Last season at Upton Park, after going 2 goals down.

2-2 Last season at Villa Park,after going 2 goals down.Scored 2 in the last 10mins.

2-1 Last minute goals against Wolves (league game at OT and League Cup game)

1-0 88th minute goal against a stubborn Bolton side.

1-0 84th minute goal against a resilient Everton defence.

Thus coming back to the point of mentality. Lets examine how many current first team players that have the mentality.This is based on how many seasons these players have been at the club to adopt to our mentality. 

Young first team players would find experience very vital and thus making young players not being able to handle the pressure and have the right mind set to participate in game.

(4) Jones-Able.Exception.Has a level head.

As you can see for yourself, this is NOT A squad that can handle the physical stress and demands of playing in four different competitions week in,week out.This is half of a first team squad thats required at this level.Have a look at the defenders that are available and you will know why they are conceding way too many goals.David De Gea has done superbly well since his big money from Atletico Madrid and has no blame to take in the number of goals conceded this season.



In addition to that, there are 2 key type of players which we are missing at the moment:


-A play maker who can run around with defenders and create chances and open up spaces between opponents defence and also that can score goals.Like how David Silva is doing for City at the moment.


-A central holding midfielder that controls the tempo of the game and holds the ball.Dictates the game in the middle and acts as shield for the back four.No better example than Scholesy.

These are the real reasons why Manchester United are performing badly on the pitch, nothing else.However, this is putting the blame on others or giving excuses.This is the logical and practical reasoning behind the poor form shown lately.United will have to buy in January and buy top notch quality players if they are being serious in winning trophies this season.However,one can always trust in Sir Alex Ferguson in building a squad and this is a squad in transition, like in 95,02,05.Give him time and trust, and you will see many many more trophies at Old Trafford.

The Real Reason Anwar Ibrahim was kicked out (Joke)

One day, SM Lee and Mahathir were drinking tea at a coffee shop when Dr. M asked SM Lee, “ Eh, Ah Lee ah, There’s one question that’s been bugging me for a long time now, I hope you can answer me – How come all this while, your plans for Singapore always run so smoothly?”


With that SM Lee grinned widely and replied, “ You know why or not, Mat? Because I have many smart ministers working for me. You don’t believe I show you.”


SM Lee then turned back and waved to one of the guys on the opposite table, “ Eh, Tony Tan come over here!”


In a flash Tony came over. SM Lee asked, “ Tony, I ask you, who’s your father’s son?” In a split second, almost barely without thinking, Tony Tan answered, “ Sir, it's me.”


And with that reply, SM Lee turned back to Mahathir grinning even more widely and said, “See?” Mahathir just stroked his chin and nodded thoughtfully.


After they parted, this issue continued to weigh heavily on Mahathir’s mind. He was thinking, “ Shit, I can’t lose out to Ah Lee! I must test my men too.”


The next day, he summoned his (then) right-hand man, Anwar to his office. Mahathir asked him seriously, “Yes, answer me this question, who is your father’s son?”


Anwar was taken aback by the question, and for a minute or so, he just stood there with sweat rolling down his forehead. He did not know the answer.


After what seemed like an eternity to him, Anwar finally offered the standard political answer, “ Boss, this is a complex question which requires me to conduct a research study and draw out a preliminary paper. I need 3 days to give you an answer, is it ok with you?”


Mathathir agreed, thinking that as long as he could give the correct answer, 3 days should be acceptable.


Anwar rushed back home and called all his kakis but no one could give him an answer. Finally, he called Bill Clinton, “Bill, I am in deep shit. You have to help me, man! Who is my father’s son?”


Bill, who at that point in time was busy with another intern in his special windowless office in the White House discussing “politics”, was impatient and frustrated. He replied, “Anwar, I am busy f**king now, errr, no no…I mean I am f**king busy now, call me later.”


But Anwar persisted and didn’t want to hang up till he got the answer. “Who’s my father’s son? Bill, please tell me!”


Finally out of frustration, Bill replied, “ It's me, lah!”, and slammed down the phone.


Anwar now grinningly went back to see Dr. M. “ Boss, after 2 sleepless night of endless research and proposal writing, I have finally come up with the answer to your thought-provoking question. The answer to the question ' who is my father’s son' is Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton is my father’s son.”


With that, Mahathir let out a deep sigh and shook his head with much disappointment and replied, “ That’s why we are always one step behind Singapore! Anwar, you are not smart enough – the correct answer is Tony Tan!”

Great read-Theodore Roosevelt

Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th President of the United States, the remarkable thing about Theodore Roosevelt is that he had a large amount of diverse talents and the range of achievements he has achieved in his lifetime.


This US President was not only a celebrated academic scholar who graduated from Harvard,he was also a historian who has published a book by the age of 24 and in total had published 18 books (each with several editions)


At the age of 26,when his mother and wife passed away on the same day, he left his lifestyle of a politician to become a cowboy in the state of Dakota.


What's further impressive is that a few years later, when the Spanish-American War broke out, Theodore Roosevelt joined the 1st United States Volunteer Cavalry or also known as the "Rough Riders" as a Colonel and went to war for his country. He led the Rough Riders to capture San Juan Hill during the war.His bravery in this war was awarded with a Medal of Honor.

In addition to all that,he was also elected as the youngest ever President of the United States at the age of 42 and led the country with wisdom, curbing the domination of large corporations by delivering a speech to the congress on the matter.His endless effort in ending the Russo-Japanese War earned him the Nobel Peace Prize.

He was the first American to win a Nobel Prize in any field.

ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT


And on October 14, 1912,while Roosevelt was campaigning in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, there was an assassination attempt against him when a salon keeper shot him from close range, but the bullet lodged in his chest only after penetrating his steel eyeglass case and passing through a thick (50 pages) single-folded copy of the speech he was carrying in his jacket. Roosevelt, as an experienced hunter and anatomist, correctly concluded that since he was not coughing blood, the bullet had not completely penetrated the chest wall to his lung, and so declined suggestions he go to the hospital immediately.


 Instead, he delivered his scheduled speech with blood seeping into his shirt.He spoke for 90 minutes. His opening comments to the gathered crowd were, "Ladies and gentlemen, I don't know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot; but it takes more than that to kill a Bull Moose."


 Afterwards, probes and x-ray showed that the bullet had traversed three inches (76 mm) of tissue and lodged in Roosevelt's chest muscle, and it would be more dangerous to attempt to remove the bullet than to leave it in place. Roosevelt carried it with him for the rest of his life.

Theodore Roosevelt, was a nerd as a Harvard graduate, a historian who wrote 18 books in total, a brave man as a cowboy who caught thief's who try to steal his river boat, a leader of his country in the form of President, a Nobel Peace Prize winner as a peacemaker who ended the Russo-Japanese war and a man who was brave enough who carried on giving his speech, right after being shot.


This man was a real men.RESPECT.
