Sikh Pride

Sikh's for generation have commanded respect from the global community for being honourable and loyal man.Armored with a high strict of self conduct has also seen them being respected and revered by many. The minority community, that makes up only 1.7% of India's population are also one of the most highly influential community in the country, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who is a Sikh himself being the best example.

The number of Sikh population have decreased ever since the partition of Pakistan from India in 1947 but that has not by any means dampened the seismic impact of Sikhs in the story of India so far. From Punjab (the centre of the Sikh world) as a major agricultural source of the country , through the participation of brave Sikh soldiers in the Indian Army (one of out of every five man in the Indian Army is a Sikh) right to the influence in major sports such as cricket and hockey, the Sikhs have nothing but been exemplary citizens of the beautiful and diverse country.

The pride that Sikhs have in their strict moral Code of Ethics (Sikh Rehat Maryada) as well as their appearance of turban and long unshaven beard and other aspects of their cultural heritage, such the fast beat folk of music of the Sikh's (bhangra), the celebrations of birth, weddings and many more have all added to the beautiful colours of the Sikh community.

To come to think that Sikhism only started 300-400 years ago, it is amazing on how far we Sikhs have came, and in the birth anniversary of the founder and first messenger of Sikhism, Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji,  let us Sikhs, from all around the world, rejoice in the spiritual teachings of our beloved Guru and all the other Guru's after him.

I would like to wish a Happy Gurpurab to all Sikhs around the world.

Sincerely,
Singh

p/s: By the way, here's a press statement made my President Obama via the Office of Secretary wishing all Sikhs a Happy Gurpurab.
